Here are the top three stories today in Baton Rouge:
- A Baton Rouge woman was arrested Tuesday for helping the father of her child avoid arrest in a Georgia homicide case. Baton Rouge police arrested Amani Scruggs on accessory after the fact in the murder of Joseph Briggs. In April 2021, Scruggs reported that she had not heard from Deron Bell, the primary suspect and father of Scruggs' children, since the incident. However, this past Tuesday, Scruggs answered the door for the U.S. Marshal's Task Force and told authorities that Bell was inside with her children. (The Advocate)
- A Baton Rouge high school student has launched a club to make a difference in his peers' lives. Tara High School senior James Robinson started "Be Heard," a group where students can meet freely to discuss the problems they're facing. Robinson wanted to create a student-led club to help those who might not feel comfortable speaking to adults, but still need support. (WAFB)
- The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office is seeking the public’s help in apprehending a suspect who took money from an elderly woman. On Jan. 21, the woman was preparing to make a transaction at a Bluebonnet Boulevard convenience store when the suspect took her money. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Crimestoppers. (BRProud.com)
