Here are the top three stories in Baton Rouge today:

  1. Darryl Hurst has officially been elected as the Baton Rouge Metro Councilman for District 5, finishing Saturday's race with 62 percent of the votes. A longtime District 5 resident and business owner, Hurst has been serving as interim Councilman since January 2022, when former Council member Erika Green resigned to serve as an East Baton Rouge Family Court Judge. Hurst's opponents, Dadrius Lanus and Daniel Banguel, received 27 percent and 12 percent of the vote, respectively. (BRProud.com)
  2. For the first time since 2019, the annual Touch-A-Truck fundraiser returned to Baton Rouge this weekend. According to organizers, over 4,000 people attended the fundraiser — nearly triple the turnout from three years ago. Proceeds from this family-friendly event went to support the Junior League of Baton Rouge. (WBRZ)
  3. The Baton Rouge Fire Department is seeking a suspect for aggravated arson in a Sunday morning apartment fire. 29-year-old Emile Williams is believed to be connected to a fire at an apartment complex on Monet Drive. Anyone with information on Williams and his whereabouts is asked to contact Greater Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers online or at (225)-344-7867. (BRProud.com)
