🌱 Deadly Shooting At Lobdell Blvd. + $1B EBRP Budget Approved

Here are the top stories today in Baton Rouge:

1. Residents of a Lobdell Boulevard apartment complex awoke yesterday morning to the news that one of their neighbors was found shot to death. Minutes earlier, what sounded like a series of gunshots rang out in the distance while Baton Rouge police officers were collecting evidence. Emergency crews had responded to the 2100 block of Lobdell Boulevard around 9:25 a.m. Wednesday to investigate the latest Baton Rouge homicide, which adds to an unprecedented spike in deadly violence that already has taken 139 lives since the beginning of 2021. 2. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome's $1 billion-plus budget for 2022 sailed through Metro Council's approval Tuesday during a special meeting that lasted all of five minutes.
   The budget growth is largely due to a windfall of revenue the city-parish is getting from federal pandemic relief dollars in the American Rescue Plan. Thus, the administration is using most of that to tackle one-time, big-ticket expenses it wouldn't otherwise be able to afford. (The Advocate)
3. Baton Rouge police are searching for a woman who fired a gun inside of a beauty supply store after being confronted for shoplifting. (News Talk 96.5 KPEL)
