Here are the top three stories today in Baton Rouge:
- On Saturday evening, Louisiana State Police Troop I was called to the scene of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in St. Mary Parish. Everardo Perez, 19 of Houston, Texas, was walking in the middle of the westbound lane of US 90 North Frontage Road when he was struck by a vehicle. According to the investigation, Perez was pronounced dead on the scene, and the driver of the vehicle was not under the influence of alcohol or impaired at the time of the crash. Police are currently investigating the incident. (Louisiana State Police)
- Acadian Ambulance honored the top medics in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Paramedic Tripp Blanchard and emergency medical technician Ashley Matthews were recognized in the capital region. (NOLA.com)
- A community is choosing to give back to a BRPD officer by running 26.2 miles. Sgt. Jason Martin lost his leg when he was hit by a drunk driver during his response to a traffic accident. Catherine Childers, along with other local businesses, are partnering to raise money, $50 a mile, to go toward the Sgt.'s recovery. (WAFB)
