Here are the top 3 stories in Baton Rouge today:

  1. On Monday around 8:15 p.m., Baton Rouge Police officers responded to a shooting at the McDonald’s on Greenwell Springs Road. A BRPD spokesperson said a DoorDash driver became angry with the contents of the order they were trying to fill at the drive-thru window. The driver reportedly fired a weapon, injuring a McDonald’s employee, possibly from shrapnel in the shooting. (The Advocate)
  2. A new charter school called Baton Rouge Discovery Academy is opening where the Runnels School used to be located on S. Harrel’s Ferry Rd. The school will house pre-K through fourth-grade classes containing around 400 students, who will be able to enroll from anywhere in the state. The free public school will offer a health sciences-integrated curriculum with the flexibility to adapt to students’ individual educational needs. (BRProud.com)
  3. A prescribed burn will be taking place at Howell Community Park on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. The entire park will be closed to the public and staff will be on-site to perform, monitor, and extinguish this controlled burn safely and efficiently. Local fire stations and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry ask residents not to report incidents of smoke or fire in Howell Community Park on the day of the burn event.
