Here are the top three stories today in Baton Rouge:
- Louisiana is doubling welfare aid after 20 years at the same rate. The new payments, which will help families with food, shelter, and clothing, will start in January. (BRProud.com)
- The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is in need of donations as 2022 nears. More families have reached out for help after losing jobs during the pandemic and being unable to put food on the table. They are asking for volunteers and donations. (WAFB)
- The LSU Museum of Art is hosting a ‘Free First Sunday’ for visitors during the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The exhibitions on view include Candice Lin: The Agnotology of Tigers, The Boneyard: The Ceramics Teaching Collection, and Form & Fire: American Studio Ceramics from the E. - It's the last chance to buy the limited edition poster by one of the most beloved artists of our time, David Hockney. He drew a luminous spring bouquet while in the kitchen of the Normandy retreat. Though the museum is closed, you can visit the shop online and purchase the poster until Dec. 31. (Instagram)
- Baton Rouge Police 2nd District Officers participated in a “Community Roll Call” in the Tigerland area. BRPD Officers will start to have roll call meetings in different areas throughout the city. (Facebook)
- The Baton Rouge Gallery is displaying John Alleyne’s “In-Between the Skin Fade” through 12/29. Alleyne is using his art platform to give a positive spotlight to barbers and hairstylists. (Facebook)
