1. The Louisiana State Penitentiary will hold a crafts fair since the rodeo was canceled due to the pandemic. The arts and crafts fair will be on Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The items for sale include handmade jewelry, leathercrafts, paintings, barbeque pits, swings, rocking chairs, and tables. (U.S. News)
2. The Louisiana Art & Science Museum will host "A Halloween Day at the Museum" on Oct. 30. There will be planetarium shows, along with hands-on activities like designing a spaceship and painting a wand. There will even be a special showing of "The Astronomical World of Harry Potter" in the Pennington Planetarium. (The Advocate)
3. Louisiana's teacher shortage, due to high percentages of teachers retiring and lack of teacher candidates, is raising alarms. (The Advocate)
