Here are the top three stories in Baton Rouge today:
- A series of strong storms are expected to poor weather to virtually every part of Louisiana, including Baton Rouge, today, Mar. 22. Schools throughout the region are planning to keep their doors closed as the strong storm system sweeps through. The storm is expected to bring the threat of tornadoes, hail, and high winds. The Governor's Office of Emergency Preparedness and FEMA issued warnings that the weather could impact those living in temporary housing units put in place after recent hurricanes. (The Advocate)
- For the past few weeks, East Baton Rouge Parish School officials have held a series of informational sessions at area schools to answer parents' questions about a new mandatory program called “Pathways to Bright Futures.” The program requires high school students to take at least one advanced-level course per year. But many parents still have questions and concerns, specifically regarding the program’s funding. (WWNO)
- In light of high gas prices, Visit Baton Rouge is evaluating its marketing plans to attract tourists to the city. According to President and CEO Paul Arrigo, the organization is monitoring gasoline prices and other travel-associated costs and may focus its marketing on the in-state and immediate drive-in market in response.
