Statement By Baton Rouge Mayor Broome On Assisting Former Stupp Employees

BATON ROUGE, LA — September 9, 2020 Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome is aware of the unfortunate proposed layoffs by Stupp Corporation. The priority at this time is helping affected employees identify employment in commensurate positions.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), the Mayor-President’s Office, and the Baton Rouge Area Chamber will closely align throughout the process to ensure that affected employees have every possible opportunity to successfully transition into gainful employment. Beginning next week, EmployBR, the One Stop Operator and the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), will work in conjunction with the Stupp Corporation to brief employees through Rapid Response orientations on re-employment, retraining, and support services to which they are entitled.

Local employers who are hiring are also invited to attend. The event will be held at Stupp Corporation’s facilities, 12555 Ronaldson Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70807, on Monday, September 21, from noon-4:30 p.m. and Wednesday, September 23, from 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Visitors should check in at the Guard House at Stupp’s Corporation Gate #2, located on Ronaldson Road.

At these events, EmployBR will provide information about career services available to eligible individuals, including training/education services, work experience(s) and on-the-job training placement. EmployBR can also assist with necessary need payments equivalent to unemployment benefits while a participant is in training as well as provide other supportive services. Supportive services include but are not limited to child-care assistance, transportation services while in training, rental assistance, purchase of all books and supplies needed.
