Here are the top stories today in Baton Rouge and nearby communities:

  1. A student was expelled after a threat to Port Allen Middle School last week. All the schools in the area were put into lockdown after police were contacted. The incident is still being investigated and it hasn't been reported whether or not the student will receive criminal charges. (WAFB)
  2. Louisiana State Police are investigating two crashes that killed four people over the weekend. One of them was a three-vehicle crash on La Hwy 1, and the other was a two-vehicle crash in East Baton Rouge Parish. Routine toxicology reports have been taken from the drivers and submitted for analysis. (KLFY)
  3. A child died in an Ascension Parish fire on Sunday, according to the Geismar Fire Department. (Weekly Citizen)
  4. The 14th Annual Fête Rouge: Food & Wine Fête at L'Auberge Casino is coming to Baton Rouge on Nov. 14 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (visitbatonrouge.com)
  5. The Louisiana Book Festival will be held online from Oct. 30 to Nov. 14 because of COVID. (KLFY)
