• Washington Parish to celebrate annual Watermelon Festival (wgno.com) — Franklinton residents can look forward to the Washington Parish Watermelon Festival returning July 10–11 at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds, with free admission, live music, contests and fireworks. A queen pageant at Franklinton Country Club on June 27 and multiple vendor and volunteer opportunities give locals plenty of ways to get involved.
   

• Johnny Ray Slocum (thetylertowntimes.org) — Family and friends in Franklinton should know that 64-year-old Johnny Ray Slocum of Jayess passed away in Franklinton on May 17. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was remembered in services held May 28 in Tylertown, with burial at New Home Church Cemetery.
