Residents at the Sept. 22 meeting questioned the impact on fixed-income households, meter problems, and departmental spending while the mayor urged action to avoid continued shortfalls and deferred maintenance. 
• FBI swears in more than 3 dozen officers for Northshore Gang Task Force (wwltv.com) — Franklinton residents will see their police department joining a new FBI Northshore Gang Task Force, alongside agencies from St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington parishes. More than three dozen officers were deputized with federal authority in Slidell, with leaders urging them to use those powers to better protect local communities from gang-related crime.
• The winner of the Hannan-STA showdown scored in all three phases of the game (nola.com) — Franklinton football fans will see their team open District 7-4A play on the road at Hannan on Oct. 9, where the Hawks are coming off a dominant 38-14 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. Hannan’s coach and players say they’ve been preparing all season for the matchup, expecting a tough battle as district competition begins.
