Analysts blame soaring insurance costs and extreme flood risk, which are scaring off would-be buyers. While some Midwestern cities are booming, the report suggests Houma residents should brace for a softer market and tougher sales. 
• From the classroom to the Clergy: Deacon Scott Beslin to be ordained a Priest (houmatimes.com) — A local deacon with deep ties to the area will be ordained a priest at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma on Saturday, June 6, with a reception afterward. Scott Beslin, a longtime Nicholls math professor, will then serve for a year as parochial vicar at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma, continuing his service to the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.
• Junior Auxiliary of Houma earns top honors at national conference (houmatimes.com) — Houma residents can take pride in the Junior Auxiliary of Houma, which just brought home multiple national awards for its local service projects supporting children and families. Members attended the NAJA conference in Nashville for training and recognition, then returned energized to expand programs like Santa’s Sneakers and InspirHer that directly benefit the Houma area.
