1. Jefferson Parish council approves water meter audit (fox8live.com) — If your Jefferson Parish water bill seems unusually high, parish leaders are taking a closer look. The council has hired LSU New Orleans to audit smart water meters at 60 homes and review billing accuracy, while Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng urges residents with big spikes to contact the water department so potential leaks or meter issues can be checked individually.
   

2. Jefferson Parish announces changes to materials accepted at recycling drop-offs (wgno.com) — Jefferson Parish is tightening what paper items you can drop off at its weekly recycling events starting Saturday, Oct. 10, cutting out things like envelopes, office paper and magazines. You can still bring newspapers, brown bags and cardboard to the Metairie and Marrero sites every Saturday morning, so Jefferson residents may need to sort differently before heading out.
   

3. 2026 State of Jefferson Luncheon Announced (bizneworleans.com) — Jefferson Parish residents and business owners can soon hear directly from top parish leaders at the annual State of Jefferson luncheon in Westwego on Oct. 21. Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng, Council Chair Jennifer Van Vrancken, and Sheriff Joe Lopinto will discuss government priorities, public safety, and economic development shaping Jefferson’s future, with networking starting at 11:15 a.m.
   

4. Manager of West Bank loan business arrested, accused of stealing nearly $60K (nola.com) — Jefferson Parish deputies arrested a Terrytown woman accused of stealing nearly $60,000 from the Harvey loan business she managed, after a missing cash deposit triggered an investigation. Detectives allege she diverted multiple payments before disappearing from work, and she’s now being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $55,000 bond.
   

5. Jefferson Parish leaders break ground on $111 million apartment complex in Elmwood (wdsu.com) — A major redevelopment is underway in Elmwood, where Jefferson Parish leaders just broke ground on The Francis, a $111 million, 250‑unit apartment complex on the former Kmart site. The mixed‑use project will add new apartments, jobs, and tax revenue, with amenities like a dog area, fitness center, and conference space, further transforming the parish’s largest shopping area.
