• Jefferson School Board oposes paid parental leave bill (nola.com) — Jefferson Parish School Board has unanimously opposed a state bill that would give public school employees six weeks of fully paid parental leave, citing concerns about federal compliance and funding. Supporters say the proposal could ease teacher shortages and help Jefferson educators who now rely on sick days or reduced pay after childbirth or adoption. Lawmakers may still amend the bill as it moves through the Legislature.
   

• Marrero man found guilty of stabbing grandfather, roommate then setting their house on fire (nola.com) — A Jefferson Parish jury has convicted a Marrero resident of killing two relatives in a 2020 stabbing and arson case, following an investigation by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney. Jurors found him guilty of first-degree murder and related charges after hearing evidence about the deadly attack and attempted cover-up by fire. Sentencing is set for June 8 in 24th Judicial District Court.
