• Spooky events around the New Orleans area help the community get into the Halloween spirit (nola.com) — Metairie families have a full slate of Halloween fun this month, from movie nights and library crafts at Lakeshore and St. Augustine's to trunk‑or‑treats, Lafreniere Park festivities, and themed skating parties on Airline Drive. The guide also covers dozens of nearby New Orleans‑area haunted houses, parades, bar crawls and library events for every age and scare level.
   

• NOLA Dogs Race to the Rescue 5K helping local shelters (wdsu.com) — Metairie pet lovers can join Sunday's NOLA Dogs 5K and dog parade at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, raising money for six local no‑kill animal rescues. With costumes encouraged, a pet parade, 5K run and blessing of the pets, organizers hope to support shelters facing serious overpopulation and mounting vet bills.
