🌱FBI To Help Thwart Violent Crime + Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Slidell

Good morning, New Orleans! It's Saturday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town.


First, today's weather:

Very warm with periods of sun. High: 89 Low: 72.


Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. A part of the ramp on Exit 231A on I-10 Eastbound to City Park Avenue and Metairie Road has been closed due to a large sinkhole that appeared on Thursday night. The DOTD is investigating, and it believes the damage was caused by a drainage system failure. (WDSU New Orleans)
  2. In a fatal motorcycle accident in Slidell on Thursday, a young man died after he crashed his motorcycle into a house. The man appeared to be speeding near the intersection of Olive Drive and Peachtree Street when he lost control of his bike. Police are investigating further to see if impairment was a contributing factor. (NOLA.com)
  3. The director of the FBI met with New Orleans authorities this week over the growing violent crime trend we've all seen these past few months. The FBI has established a task force to help local officials combat the rising rates and help police departments with both federal and state issues. (WWLTV.com)

  • The City of NOLA settled its free-speech lawsuit brought on by two public library workers last year who felt their right to free speech was being infringed upon, specifically on social media. The city has now changed its employee social media policy which previously didn't allow city employees to engage in negative content about the city on social platforms.(WWLTV.com)
  • Louisiana lawmakers are looking to require nursing homes to have better plans and back-up power in the aftermath of a disastrous Hurricane Ida evacuation which left 12 nursing home residents dead. (WDSU New Orleans)
  • Democratic state Representative Mandie Landry is the first to announce that she will run for the vacant New Orleans Senate seat in the special election scheduled for November 8. (Daily Advertiser)
