New Orleans residents oppose tax hike but say it may be necessary (fox8live.com) — New Orleans homeowners could see higher property tax bills next year as city leaders weigh a millage roll forward to help close a $220 million deficit. Residents say they're frustrated but recognize the need for revenue, while the City Council plans an October 29 public meeting and additional town halls to debate alternatives and possible budget cuts.
   

2. As one cultural landmark closes, Ashé bets on community and future of Oretha Castle Haley Blvd (wwltv.com) — If you live in New Orleans, big changes are coming to Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard as the Southern Food and Beverage Museum closes while Ashé Cultural Arts Center expands housing, health outreach, and a proposed AfroLuxe boutique hotel. Ashé is also seeking community input, submissions to The Black Papers through Sept. 30, and support for its Rooftop Gala and Festival in mid-October.
   

3. U.S. Marshals Task Force and Seattle SWAT Arrest New Orleans Murder Suspect (crweworld.com) — A man wanted by New Orleans police on a second-degree murder charge has been arrested in Federal Way, Washington, after a joint effort by U.S. Marshals and Seattle SWAT. Authorities say he'll be extradited back to New Orleans, underscoring how closely local detectives worked with national task forces to track him across the country.
   

4. New Orleans Artist Robin Barnes Showcases Sound, Flavor and Soul of Louisiana Culture Through New Docuseries, Discovering Home with Robin Barnes (bigeasymagazine.com) — New Orleans viewers can catch hometown singer Robin Barnes' new three-part docuseries, "Discovering Home," premiering October 4 at 8:30 p.m. on WLAE-TV and streaming on YouTube. The series culminates with an episode set in New Orleans, spotlighting local food, music, and family history, and features Barnes' collaborations with familiar city institutions and her Move Ya Brass community nonprofit.
