📰 News we're reading

1. City of New Orleans asks U.S. Supreme Court to review decision eliminating Clerk of Criminal Court role (wdsu.com) — New Orleans officials are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review a Louisiana ruling that eliminated the elected Clerk of Criminal Court position and voided the recent vote for that office. City leaders argue Orleans Parish voters were treated differently from others, raising constitutional questions about whether legislatures can effectively erase election results after ballots are cast.

2. Push to redevelop New Orleans' West End gains momentum (wwltv.com) — Redevelopment of New Orleans' long-closed West End is finally moving forward, with a new economic development district and an active search for developers underway. Officials expect community meetings through year's end and hope to select a developer by next spring, potentially restoring restaurants, boardwalk access, and family gathering spaces along the Lake Pontchartrain shoreline.

3. AG Murrill's attorney says another lawsuit possible over New Orleans public records (fox8live.com) — New Orleans residents should know the state attorney general's lawyer is threatening to sue the city, claiming officials haven't fully complied with a public records request tied to Liz Murrill's now-dismissed indictment. City Hall says it's working through thousands of requests and has reopened this one, while council members' texts and prosecutors' communications are drawing fresh scrutiny over how the case was handled.

4. Aging City Hall needs repairs, but deficit leaves funding unclear (wwltv.com) — New Orleans officials are weighing how to repair or replace the city's aging City Hall and Civil District Court even as they confront a multi-million-dollar budget deficit. Residents from Algiers to New Orleans East are pushing for more accessible, neighborhood-based services and potential annexes, while a planning committee studies renovation, new construction, and funding options to recommend to Mayor Moreno and the City Council in January.

5. New Orleans man's body remains missing since August (fox8live.com) — New Orleans neighbors are being asked to help locate the body of 69-year-old Alphonse Hogan Jr., whose disappearance from the 7th Ward in August is now a homicide case. Police have arrested his nephew on a murder charge, while the United Cajun Navy prepares to assist NOPD searches as Hogan's fiancée pleads for information so he can receive a proper burial.
