The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.
Hello again, neighbors! It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the New Orleans Daily. Here's what you need to know about what's happening locally.
First, today's weather:
A thunderstorm in spots. High: 89 Low: 78.
Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:
- The New Orleans City Council has announced that it wants to consider reinstating facial recognition technology across the city. The controversial technology might help the city combat the recent crime wave that is considered the worst NOLA has seen since Hurricane Katrina. (WDSU New Orleans)
- New Orleans DA, Jason Williams, was allowed to enter court via a private entrance due to security and safety concerns during his tax fraud trial. Williams also donned a bulletproof vest after receiving a death threat on Wednesday night. Williams has previously been using the public entrance but with support from NOPD has transitioned to a more secure method while the threat is investigated. (WDSU New Orleans)
- NOPD responded to the scene of a shooting on Broad Street on Wednesday night where one male victim was shot in the leg. The man was taken to the hospital by EMS for treatment but NOPD has yet to release information on his condition or the context of the shooting. (WGNO New Orleans)
