City officials stress these are not new taxes, but long-standing renewals that support daily essential services and could prevent higher utility fees or reduced garbage pickup if approved.

First responders honored for saving another life (nola.com) — Slidell’s St. Tammany Fire District No. 1 crew was recently honored for using the Hurst Jaws of Life to save a Bush woman trapped in an overturned car on I-10 last August. At a May 21 ceremony in Slidell, each firefighter received a Green Cross Award, while the survivor thanked them for the compassion that helped her through a life-threatening crash and long recovery.

Louisiana sports-themed restaurant co-owned by Drew Brees has closed an Alabama location (al.com) — A Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux location in Slidell has reportedly closed as of Monday, part of a wider pattern of openings and shutdowns for the Drew Brees–affiliated chain. While the company hasn’t explained the move, locals holding gift cards are being encouraged to visit other Walk-On’s restaurants as the brand continues shifting its regional footprint.
