Mother in Augusta Amber Alert Charged: Report

A 3-year-old Augusta girl went missing last week, triggering an Amber Alert.

AUGUSTA, ME β€” The mother of a 3-year-old Augusta girl who went missing last week β€” triggering an Amber Alert β€” has reportedly been charged in connection with the case.

Karen Lea, 40, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, according to WGME.

Police said the girl went missing from her Sewall Street residence Monday night after Lea was involved in a "medical emergency." Police later said that emergency involved drugs, according to WGME.

The girl was returned to the police station Tuesday unharmed. Police said she may have been in the company of two individuals.

Police said "hundreds" of investigators searched for the girl.
