• Maine honors two firefighters killed in line of duty among others at memorial service (wabi.tv) — In Augusta, the annual Firefighter Memorial Service at the Capitol grounds honored 42 Maine firefighters lost this year, including two killed in the Searsmont mill explosion. Speakers, including Sen. Susan Collins and state fire leaders, used the ceremony to both remember the fallen and highlight urgent staffing and training challenges facing Maine's largely volunteer fire service.
   

• Kennebec County Jail correctional officer indicted on sexual assault charges (centralmaine.com) — In Augusta, a Kennebec County Jail corrections officer has been indicted on felony charges alleging sexual contact with an inmate under his supervision. He was arrested in August, released on bail with strict no-contact conditions, and is scheduled to appear at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta later this month for arraignment.
