Cony field hockey edges rival Gardiner (centralmaine.com) — Cony's field hockey team secured a 1-0 rivalry win over Gardiner on Tuesday night in Augusta, reclaiming the coveted Cony-Gardiner boot on Fuller Field. Backed by a loud home crowd for the Drive Out Cancer game, the Rams used relentless pressure and a penalty-corner goal from Helen Dineen, assisted by Kate Morin, to bounce back from a recent tie.
   

2. Convocation 2026 Kicks Off a Year of Critical Thinking in the Age of AI - University of Maine at Augusta (uma.edu) — Students and faculty at the University of Maine at Augusta just kicked off the new academic year with a convocation on the Augusta campus focused on "Critical Thinking in the Age of AI." Surgeon with checkered history negotiating to join Houlton hospital (bangordailynews.com) — A surgeon who formerly led the medical staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, and was investigated over alleged harassment and unprofessional conduct, is now in talks to join Houlton Regional Hospital. Regulators ultimately placed him on a year of probation for unethical behavior, and Houlton officials say they are following strict credentialing and monitoring standards as they consider his appointment.
   

5. Maine DMR launches campaign to protect endangered sturgeon (wabi.tv) — A new state campaign based in Augusta is asking Mainers to report sightings of endangered sturgeon and handle the fish carefully if caught. The Department of Marine Resources, with Maine Sea Grant and NOAA funding, is posting signs around key waterways and promoting a reporting portal that has already logged more than 120 sightings since 2025.
