Portland is redesigning two major roads in the city, aimed at improving safety (newscentermaine.com) — Portland is moving ahead with major safety-focused redesigns of Forest Avenue and Franklin Street, including lane reductions, new bike lanes, and improved crosswalks. City officials say the changes aim to cut crashes, ease transit delays, and reconnect neighborhoods, with Forest Avenue's demonstration project starting as early as this summer and Franklin's final design heading to council this fall.
   

2. McAllister buys Maine wharf to expand harbor footprint (workboat.com) — Portland Harbor's working waterfront is set for a major change as McAllister Towing moves to buy Sprague's wharf parcel, including the pier and warehouse, where Portland Tugboat already operates. The sale will split Sprague's Portland terminal, sending upland land toward a planned professional soccer stadium while keeping the pier in active marine use, with closing expected by year's end.
   

3. Portland considers new approach to creating affordable housing in city (wgme.com) — Portland leaders are weighing a new social housing approach that could create permanently affordable, mixed-income homes for local middle-income workers. A city task force recommends partnering with housing organizations and dedicating funding, aiming to help teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other residents who currently struggle to find housing in Portland.
   

4. Kristin Key cracks up crowds with comedy and a guitar (pressherald.com) — Portland comedy fans can catch Kristin Key's CA-CAW tour at the State Theatre on Oct. 8, with reserved seats starting under $25. Known for her guitar-driven stand-up, viral clips, and sharp crowd work, Key says she already feels a special connection to Maine and is eager to finally spend real time performing in Portland.
   

5. Maine real estate professionals in the news (mainebiz.biz) — Several Portland-area real estate professionals are earning new credentials, awards, and roles, including a broker named Best Realtor in the "Best of Portland 2026" rankings and a manager overseeing properties across Portland and nearby towns. The roundup highlights how local agents, managers, and firms are expanding services and recognition in Greater Portland's residential and commercial markets, from Peaks Island roots to Portland's East End.
