• Two care providers to lose MaineCare billing privileges next month (wgme.com) — Portland-based We Care Residential Services will lose its MaineCare billing privileges on October 13 after the state denied its license, forcing local clients to move to other agencies. DHHS says the extension from next week's original cutoff is meant to give Portland and South Portland members time to transition, following serious safety concerns at homes in nearby Saco, Westbrook, and Falmouth.
   

• Central Maine Power and harbor masters taking safety steps for nor'easter (wmtw.com) — Portland harbor officials and Central Maine Power are stepping up preparations as a powerful nor'easter brings high surf, erosion, and potential flooding to Maine's coast. The Portland and South Portland harbormaster is urging boat owners to haul vessels and check moorings, while CMP has extra crews ready but warns bucket trucks can't operate in winds above 30 mph.
   

• Maine veterans find healing and closure on Honor Flight visit to DC memorials (newscentermaine.com) — Dozens of Maine veterans departed from the Portland Jetport for an Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C., where they visited war memorials, laid wreaths, and received emotional tributes. When they returned to Portland, crowds at the jetport gave them the warm welcome many Vietnam and Korean War veterans never received, helping some find long-sought healing and closure.
