1. 1 man dead after police chase in Portland ends at ferry terminal; no witnesses hurt (newscentermaine.com) — A police chase through downtown Portland ended at the Casco Bay ferry terminal, where officers fatally shot 37-year-old Jacob Hastings after he allegedly threatened people and stole multiple vehicles. Ferry staff quickly sheltered passengers and delayed boats, and no bystanders were hurt. Three Portland officers are now on administrative leave while the Maine Attorney General investigates, and police are asking witnesses to come forward.
   

2. Collins asks Trump administration to keep negotiating with Canada on tariffs (fox23maine.com) — From her Portland office, Sen. Susan Collins is pressing the Trump administration to keep negotiating with Canada over tariffs she says could sharply raise costs for Maine businesses and towns. She warns that road salt, concrete, paper, and other products could see immediate price hikes, hitting local budgets and families across the state if no deal is reached.
   

3. Drought Conditions Increase Again in Maine (wgan.com) — Much of Maine, including areas just south of Portland, is back under worsening drought, with nearly 95 percent of the state at least abnormally dry. Severe drought now grips a large stretch of the coast toward Bar Harbor, affecting hundreds of thousands of residents and reversing gains made earlier this summer.
   

4. Leaders from the National Endowment for the Arts visit Maine (newscentermaine.com) — National Endowment for the Arts leaders wrapped up a three-day Maine tour that included a stop in Portland to see how local arts support community revitalization. Their visit, centered on Lewiston's new Maine Mill Museum, highlighted how creative programs in cities like Portland, Rockland, and Bangor are helping drive resilience and redevelopment.
   

5. Juju Nadeau, A Victim of Transgender Violence, is Rembered by Friends and Family (outfrontmagazine.com) — Friends and family in Portland are mourning 21-year-old Juju Nadeau, who was fatally stabbed on Black Cove Trail and later died at a local hospital. Loved ones are honoring her under Tukey's Bridge with flowers and notes, while her partner and best friend work to preserve her memory and highlight respect for transgender victims of violence.
