1. Maine Public wrapping up renovations on new Portland home (mainebiz.biz subscription) — Maine Public is nearly finished transforming the former Public Market building on Cumberland Avenue into its new Portland headquarters, complete with modern studios and sizable community event space. The nonprofit is investing about $31 million in purchase and renovations, keeping roughly 80–100 staff in the city and creating new rooms that can host up to 225 people for local gatherings.
   

2. Heliport at Maine Medical Center is closed for upgrades and maintenance (wabi.tv) — For nearly two weeks, medical helicopters won't land at Maine Medical Center's Sisters Heliport in Portland while equipment upgrades and testing take place. During the closure, LifeFlight and other medical helicopters will instead use the Portland International Jetport, with patients transferred by ambulance to the hospital, so emergency transports should still continue with adjusted logistics.
   

3. Proposal could reduce travel lanes on Forest Ave. in Portland, Maine (wmtw.com) — Forest Avenue between Woodfords Corner and the USM area could soon lose travel lanes and some parking as Portland tests a redesign adding buffered bike lanes, new crosswalks, and clearer bus stops. City staff will present the plan to the Sustainability and Transportation Committee in a Zoom meeting, where residents can weigh in before a several‑month demonstration phase begins.
   

4. Portland mayor stresses road safety after latest deadly crash involving pedestrian (wgme.com) — Portland's mayor is urging drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to be more cautious after a 13-year-old was killed and two other teens were injured crossing Warren Avenue. As police investigate, the city's new Vision Zero initiative is focusing on safer road designs and lower speeds, but officials stress that everyday behavior on Portland streets will ultimately determine whether serious crashes decline.
   

5. 2026 Cohort of NASDA Next Generation Students Announced (americanagnetwork.com) — Portland will host the 2026 NASDA Annual Meeting and Next Generation program, bringing college students from across the country here to connect with agricultural policy leaders. Several Maine- and New England-based students are among the cohort, including University of Maine and Bates College participants. The four-day September 2026 gathering will spotlight agriculture's future and give students hands-on exposure to state and federal policy discussions.
