Maine State Police Search For Suspect After Skowhegan Drug Stop (z1073.com) — State police are searching for a Massachusetts man who fled a Skowhegan traffic stop where officers seized 354 grams of suspected crack cocaine and arrested two others on drug charges. Skowhegan-area residents are urged to contact the Maine State Police Central Field Troop with any information as authorities pursue aggravated trafficking and furnishing charges tied to the September 12 stop. 
2. PUBLIC NOTICES for Thursday, October 1, 2026 (townline.org) — Skowhegan residents are named in several new Somerset County probate filings, including estates of local decedents, name-change petitions, and a guardianship case set for hearing on October 14 at the Court Street probate court. Creditors have four months from October 1 to file claims, and anyone with an interest in the guardianship or name changes can appear or contact the court by the listed deadlines.
3. High schools Wednesday: Skowhegan field hockey blanks Lewiston (centralmaine.com) — Skowhegan field hockey stayed unbeaten at 8-0 with a 3–0 home win over Lewiston, powered by goals from Addie Lynch, Kayori Kenyon, and Maddi Provost and a shutout from goalie Michelle Williams. For Skowhegan fans, the victory keeps the River Hawks near the top of Class A North and extends their strong start to the season.
4. As heating costs surge, fire officials urge caution with woodstoves and space heaters (wabi.tv) — Rising heating costs have Waterville's fire chief recalling a dangerous spike in chimney and structure fires in Skowhegan during the 2008 fuel price surge, when many residents turned to unsafe woodstove setups. He's urging Maine families to use properly installed stoves, dry wood, and modern space heaters, and to seek free inspections and safety advice before winter fully sets in.
