MD Resends Thousands Of Mail-In Ballots Ahead Of Primary

MARYLAND — Thousands of new mail-in ballots are being sent out to Marylanders after the State Board of Elections said it encountered a vendor error.

The agency said some voters had received the wrong party's ballot for the upcoming primary election on June 23.

Authorities said the mishap affected ballots mailed to residents before May 14.

However, "in order to maintain the highest level of confidence and accuracy in mail-in voting, " all voters will receive new ballots, according to the board.

"The state and local Board of Elections remain committed to running an election that is verified, secure and accurate," Maryland State Administrator of Elections Jared DeMarinis said in a statement.

"Please be assured that we are actively answering phones and responding to emails and will remain transparent as we navigate through this situation."

Voters who requested ballots that could be downloaded and printed from home were not impacted by the error.
