MD Weather: Flood Watch Issued As Heavy Rains Move In Tuesday
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Baltimore and several Maryland counties as up to 5 inches of rain move in Tuesday.
MARYLAND — The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Baltimore and multiple Maryland counties as up to 5 inches of rain moves in overnight through Tuesday afternoon.
The flash flood watch is in effect from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday for portions of DC, Maryland and northern Virginia, including Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties.
Cities under the watch include: Frederick, Baltimore, Odenton, Greenbelt, Severna Park, Aberdeen, Germantown, Columbia, Jarrettsville, Gaithersburg, Elkton, Glen Burnie, Suitland-Silver Hill, Annapolis, Arnold, Cockeysville, Silver Spring, Bethesda, Rockville, Laurel, Camp Springs, College Park, Ellicott City, Severn, and Eldersburg.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the Weather Service said.
"Heavy showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to drop 2 to 3 inches across much
of the watch area, with isolated higher amounts up to 5 inches possible in the heaviest cells," the NWS forecast said.

A flood watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible.
Here's the NWS forecast for Maryland for the next few days:
Monday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 73. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tuesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 82. Light and variable wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and 11pm, then a chance of showers after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Wednesday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Wednesday Night: A slight chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 84.
