10 High Schools Receive Top College Board Honors

Ten high schools in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system earned top distinctions from the College Board.

ANNE ARUNDEL CO., MD — A total of 10 high schools from Anne Arundel County earned top distinctions from the College Board for their work in expanding access to advanced placement coursework.

The biggest winner of the group was Crofton High School, which made history by earning the AP Platinum designation on the College Board’s AP School Honor Roll.

“This award reflects the dedication our staff brings to creating access for every student,” Crofton High School Principal Greg Ryan said in a release.

“We believe that when students are given high level academic opportunities and rigorous coursework, they will rise to the challenge – and their success proves it.”

The distinction is the highest level of recognition available, and just about 8% of schools across the nation receive that honor, according to the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system.

Nine other schools in the county received distinctions on the national honor roll:

AP Honor Roll Gold

  • Chesapeake Science Point
  • Severna Park High School
  • South River High School

AP Honor Roll Silver

  • Arundel High School
  • Broadneck High School

AP Honor Roll Bronze

  • Annapolis High School
  • Chesapeake High School
  • North County High School
  • Southern High School

AACPS Superintendent Mark Bedell said the recognition from the College Board is "proof of the intentional work that has gone on throughout our district to eradicate the gatekeeping mentality by supporting open access to AP classes to all students and assisting with funding for AP exams.”

The district reported seeing a nearly 45% increase in the number of students enrolled in AP courses from the 2021-2022 school year to the 2024-2025 year.
