Annapolis Mayor's Cousin Charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery
Savvas Pantelides, 24, was charged on 17 criminal counts related to an armed robbery. He is the cousin of Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantelides.
A cousin of Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantelides faces 17 criminal charges, including attempted first-degree murder, in the January shooting of a Harwood man.
Savvas Pantelides, 24, was charged on 17 criminal counts related to an armed robbery of Brett Shumaker, 32, of Harwood. The charges included attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery and first-degree assault, reports the Capital-Gazette.
He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center Thursday, said a police spokeswoman.

Savvas Pantelides is the son of Andre Pantelides, a member of the mayor’s campaign team and the mayor’s uncle. The younger Pantelides sometimes appeared at campaign events when Mike Pantelides ran for mayor.
Maurice Hall, 26, was also arrested and charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder Thursday in relation to the Jan. 20 shooting of Shumaker. Police told the Capital-Gazette that Shumaker was walking on a footbridge near 20 Silopanna Road that night when two men approached him. One of the men pointed a gun at Shumaker; the other showed him a knife.

Shumaker began fighting the suspect armed with the knife when he was shot in the right arm, according to police. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Jan. 24, Shumaker was charged with two counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. He was released on his own recognizance.
