“The task of getting more than 125 school system buildings ready to reopen after a storm like this is a massive one,” schools Superintendent George Arlotto said. “In addition to our school sites, however, we need to ensure that we have safe places for students to walk and vehicles to navigate as they travel to and from schools. That is a task that will take everyone in this county working together to accomplish.”

Anne Arundel County officials continue to ask residents to help in the snowstorm cleanup by shoveling sidewalks and digging out nearby fire hydrants in their communities.

As snowplows continue to push out snow in residential areas, the Department of Public Works says residents whose streets have been missed should call call 410-222-4040.

County Executive Steve Schuh Thursday afternoon urged residents to help shovel out sidewalks and school bus stops in their communities.

“Now that all county roads are clear, we are asking our citizens to help ensure our students can travel to school safely,” said Schuh. “We are encouraging every homeowner and business owner to help make certain that county sidewalks are clear.”

Snow removal on sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner. In many instances, these sidewalks are used by children as school walking routes, and not clearing them can force the students to walk in busy roadways.
