Community Foundation Awards Grants to Annapolis Nonprofits

The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County recently awarded $135,000 to eight local nonprofit groups.

The money is part of the foundation’s Ladders to SUCCESS. The grants are intended to provide job training and educational opportunities to low wealth and vulnerable county residents, according to a release.

This is the third year the foundation has provided grants.

The Annapolis area organizations that received grants this year include:

• Creating Communities Youth Arts Fellowship: $17,500—To provide 20 10th-12th graders from low-wealth families with a 10-month arts-education program to help them improve communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; and improve school attendance, scores and behavior reports.
• St. Philips Family Life Center Inc.: $23,620—To support the Extended Educational Enrichment Experience (Quad E) that provides assessment, tutoring and family support services to low-income students who are in danger of failing. The program incorporates individual and family counseling, life skill training, career exploration and planning, and community service projects.
• Stanton Center After-School Homework Club: $10,000—To provide a new reading and math component for the more than 35 neighborhood students who attend the club every day. This new component will help students raise reading and math skills up to grade level through the use of technology and curriculum that parallels their in-school experiences.
