Coronavirus Updates In Prince George's County, Cases By ZIP Code

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Prince George's County now has 23,372 coronavirus cases, according to the Maryland Department of Health. The county's death toll has reached 726.

More than 19.2 million people around the world have been infected by coronavirus. Global deaths from the virus total more than 716,000, according to Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, 4.9 million people have been infected, and more than 160,000 have died from coronavirus.

Prince George's County still has the most confirmed coronavirus cases in the state, according to the latest data from the Maryland Department of Health. Montgomery County has the second most, with a total of 18,139 positive cases. Montgomery County, however, has more coronavirus-related deaths than Prince George's County with 762 deaths as of Friday morning.

Maryland has had 93,806 coronavirus cases to date. The state says 3,429 Marylanders have died because of coronavirus.

A week after several Prince George's County police shut down illegal pool parties on the weekend of July 24, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks tightened coronavirus regulations.

Gatherings of up to 100 people were previously allowed. Now, crowds are capped at 50. Alsobrooks has threatened a $5,000 fine and a year in prison for anybody who violates coronavirus orders.

Gov. Larry Hogan also expanded the state's mask order on July 31. Maryland residents must now wear a mask in all public places, not just indoor ones. This includes outdoor areas like town centers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises doing the following to slow the spread of coronavirus:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If this is not available, use hand sanitizer that is at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Keep 6 feet of space between people.
  • Stay home.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

The CDC lists these as symptoms of coronavirus:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
