County Pool Closes For Day; 2 Workers Show Coronavirus Symptoms

The Arundel Olympic Swim Center temporarily closed Sunday after two of its employees showed coronavirus symptoms.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Arundel Olympic Swim Center closed temporarily closed after two of its employees showed symptoms of coronavirus, the Anne Arundel County Department of Health said in a press release. The pool was closed on Sunday to clean the facility and trace potential exposures. It reopened on Monday.

The two workers were not at the swim center when they showed symptoms. The pool also has a child care facility, but it was not affected by the issue, the release said. The day care has a separate staff, space and entrances.

"Swim center staff have been following protocols by wearing masks, social distancing, proper and frequent hand washing, and sanitizing and disinfecting the surfaces in the facility," Elin Jones, a Department of Health spokesperson, said in an email.

The department of health encourages anybody with symptoms of or potential exposure to coronavirus to get tested. Marylanders can find to the coronavirus testing sight nearest them with this interactive map.

Anne Arundel County has 5,562 coronavirus cases, the fifth most in the state. More than 200 people in the county have died from coronavirus.

For coronavirus and testing information, residents can call the Health Line at (410) 222-7256. The line is staffed on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The swim center is currently open by appointment only.
