Dance, Dance Revelation

Organist and Bach expert Larry Molinaro will present a free, one-hour concert of JS Bach’s dance music, called “Dance, Dance Revelation.”

In the 17th and 18th centuries dance music was one of the most common musical forms and made its way into almost all genres of music, including the sacred vocal works of J.S. Bach.

That may come as a surprise to Bach fans but, Molinaro said it’s true. He’ll demonstrate this by playing dance music for the Gavotte, Bourée, Sarabande and Gigue and then find the connective tissue that ties it to JS Bach's majestic B Minor Mass, one of his greatest and most majestic works.

The concert also will feature Molinaro playing the French Ouverture (Clavier-Übung II), as well as other Bach compositions that incorporate dance. The Bach series continues on March 1.

Molinaro, a former organist at , performs regularly as harpsichordist with the chamber ensemble Con Brio! and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. He earned the Artist's Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and continued his studies at Yale University's School of Music, where he was Frank Bozyan Scholar for Organ.
