Hiking Day Planned In Crownsville + Women's Canoeing Event Coming To Lothian

A Crownsville forest will host a community hiking day. Plus, a Lothian sanctuary will offer a women's canoeing event.

MARYLAND — Anne Arundel County residents have plenty of ways to enjoy nature this spring. Locals can hike in Crownsville or canoe in Lothian. Marylanders can also watch a week-long Chesapeake Bay TV event, explore a historic ship or attend a green festival.

"10 Great Hikes at Bacon Ridge!

Scenic Rivers Land Trust's 17th annual celebration of the natural beauty of the protected Bacon Ridge Natural Area is back and registration is now open! Guided hikes include two birding hikes, an archaeological hike, a nature photography hike, [a] reptile and amphibians hike and more, beginning at 7:30 am until the last hike at 12:30 pm. There will also be a spring scavenger hunt, a special aquatic wildlife exploration, and a “Say My Name Ceremony” at the Crownsville Hospital Cemetery. Walk for the Woods is a free community event. However, registration is required for all attendees. April 30, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm; Bacon Ridge Natural Area, Crownsville, MD. More information and registration."

"Women on the Water

Enjoy a day of serenity spent with other women, submersed in the peacefulness of nature. Join Jug Bay for a leisurely canoe paddle on the Patuxent River, on the lookout for wildlife and flowering wetland plants along the shoreline. Enjoy a gourmet catered lunch at the historic Riggleman House, located on Jug Bay’s newest property. $40 per person includes naturalist canoe guides, all canoe equipment, gourmet lunch and park admission. "It’s MPT Chesapeake Bay Week!

Maryland Public Television celebrates its 18th year of Chesapeake Bay Week with seven days of Bay-related content. New this year is an up-close look at Smith Island with longtime environmental reporter Tom Horton, Chesapeake Decoys: The Nature of Waterfowl Art, Troubled Tributary: Maryland’s Patuxent River, and a documentary about a group of distressed war veterans who find healing and connection on the Chesapeake Bay. The more than 21 hours of content will include stories about the search for the best crab cakes ever, eatin’ crabs Chesapeake style, creatures of the Chesapeake, the fascinating history and future of shad, the Conowingo Dam, lighthouses and more! The electric vehicle and car show will feature the world’s first electric truck.
