Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot May Run For Governor
Maryland's comptroller Peter Franchot announced Aug. 21 in a fundraising email that he may run for governor when Gov. Hogan's term ends.

ANNAPOLIS, MD —Maryland's comptroller Peter Franchot announced Aug. 21 in a fundraising email that he is "strongly considering" running for governor in 2022. He was first elected comptroller in 2006 and has been re-elected to the post three times. The governor's position is capped at two four-year terms and Republic Gov. Larry Hogan currently is serving his second term.
In his email shared by the AP, Franchot noted that it's "no secret" that political insiders aren't big fans of his political stances. He wrote that "they will surely mount an impressive effort to support their anointed candidate." Still, he has managed to be re-elected despite finding himself at odds with his own political party on several occasions.
