Naval Academy Bridge Traffic Light Work Postponed

UPDATE (2 p.m.)—Work on the traffic lights on the Naval Academy Bridge that was scheduled for Thursday and Friday has been postponed until Monday and Tuesday.

Heavy fog on Thursday morning, coupled with security exercises at the Naval Academy and the Naval station on Greenbury Point prompted the delays, according to a release from the State Highway Administration (SHA).

Crews will be working to replace or repair the lights on Maryland Route 450 at the bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, according to a release. The work is dependent on the weather.

The westbound lane will be closed Monday, with traffic alternating in the eastbound lane. That setup will switch on Tuesday.

Marine traffic on the Severn River will not be affected, according to the release.

Officials said about 11,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day. They said drivers should consider using US Route 50 as an alternative.

Covington Machine and Welding of Annapolis is the contractor on the project, according to the release.

Planned security exercises at the Naval Academy and on Greenbury Point could potentially adding to traffic woes in that area.
