ANNAPOLIS, MD — Crews are making progress on the new parking garage in downtown Annapolis. Workers set up a tower crane on Tuesday to begin construction on the now empty lot.

The city expected this crane set-up to close Conduit Street between Main Street and Duke of Gloucester Street on Tuesday and Wednesday. The closure only happened Tuesday, however, because crews finished installing the crane a day early.

"We have a ton of cranes in DC where I work," Arnold resident KJ Brennan said on Facebook. "But seeing one in DTA is fascinating!"

The city closed the old Noah Hillman Garage this May. Workers then demolished the previous structure to make room for the new garage on the same property.

The future garage will also be located at 150 Gorman Street. The facility will have about 165 more parking spaces than its predecessor.

The city expects to finish the $28 million rebuild around June 2023.
