Runners Honor Fallen Heroes
The 9/11 Heroes Run began at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Sept. 7 and went through parts of Admiral Heights.

More than 40,000 runners in more than 50 communities participated in the 9/11 Heroes Run on the two weekends closest to Sept. 11, the date in 2001 when hijacked aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field.
Annapolis was one of those communities. A 5K race and one-mile Fun Run began at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Sept. 7 with the 5K going through parts of Admiral Heights.
Sponsored by the Travis Manion Foundation, the 9/11 Heroes Run urges people to run, volunteer, donate, cheer, but most of all to honor our nation’s heroes. Run attendees were encouraged to thank and show their appreciation to the first responders that put their lives on the line for everyone.

This year many sponsors were at the race, including Star Wars costuming clubs, the Navy Federal Credit Union, Mission BBQ and CBS Radio. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the race will be donated locally.
The Travis Manion Foundation helps our nation’s veterans and service members, and supports families of fallen heroes.
