Suspicious Package Given All-Clear At Naval Academy

BREAKING: A suspicious package was investigated at the US Naval Academy, and found not be a hazard, officials said.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A suspicious package that drew area fire crews to the U.S. Naval Academy turned out not to be a threat and operations were returning to normal about 1 p.m. Tuesday. US Naval Academy Fire and Police Departments said on Twitter that they responded to reports of a suspicious package in the Bancroft Hall mailroom on campus Tuesday morning. Midshipmen, staff and faculty were told to stay clear of the area and to report any suspicious activity.

Anne Arundel First Alert reported that HazMat crews from the city of Annapolis Fire Department have been called to assist, along with crews from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The Academy tweeted an update about 1 p.m. saying the "all clear" was given after the package was evaluated.
