The Capital: Naval Academy to Honor Commodore John Barry

The memorial was approved on March 15, according to the report.

The Capital reported Monday that the U.S. Naval Academy will soon have a monument honoring Commodore John Barry, the first commissioned officer of the U.S. Navy.

According to the report, the Naval Academy's Memorial Oversight Committee approved the monument in mid-March.

The monument, which will be made of bronze and stand 8-feet tall, will sit inside the academy gate on Prince George Street, the report states.
