Thousands Receive Food From AACPS During Coronavirus Closure

Anne Arundel County Public Schools has fed more than 7,000 kids in the first two days of offering 3 meals per day during school closures.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — On the first day of providing breakfast, lunch and dinner to Anne Arundel County youth while schools are shut down due to the new coronavirus, 3,359 students were served at 52 sites set up across the county. On the second day, 4,523 youth were given healthy meals.

Curbside pickup of the meals, along with a snack, is to be provided to students at 31 school sites from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Mobile meals vehicles will deliver meals to 21 additional sites in six communities on weekdays, as well.

Children must be between the ages of 2 and 18, but do not have to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals. Adults cannot accept meals on behalf of children.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools officials reiterated that everyone needs to stay in their vehicles and drive up to personnel to obtain meals if not walking to the sites.

"For those walking, please practice social distancing as you wait for your meals," the school posted on its Facebook page.
