BASKETBALL: Chesapeake Boys Only Local Winner
Here's a look at how the local schools faired in the first round of playoff action.

The Chesapeake girls basketball team fell to the Glen Burnie Gophers 45-35 Friday night in the first round of the 4A east region finals.
The Cougars traveled to Glen Burnie Friday night to face the Gophers for the third time this season. Chesapeake lost to Glen Burnie twice during the regular season, but coach Melanie Herget said she was hoping for the Cougars.
But the sixth-seeded Gophers offensive performance was too much for Chesapeake.

“We lost the game on rebounds,” Herget said in an email to Patch. “Glen Burnie had too many offensive rebounds.”
The Cougars were led by Brianna Zajac’s 13-point performance, but were still out-played on the boards.

First-year coach Herget said she was proud of the team’s accomplishments this season and is looking forward to next year.
“We are looking to build on this season,” she said. “The first season is always hard with a new coach, but I think next season the girls will get my expectations, routines, and vision, and we will be able to start where we left off and continue to get better.”
The Northeast girls basketball team also competed Friday night. They fell 50-34 to Centennial High School.
The Northeast boys team 64-55 Friday night.
The Chesapeake 67-57 Friday night and will face Arundel on Tuesday.
