Crafters Craft at Michael's Event
The events, which occur several times each month, invite local children to indulge their creative sides.
Judy Taggart found Michael’s “Make It/Take It” event in her Sunday circular and immediately thought of her two eleven year old granddaughters, Sydney and Kaitlyn. The two hour event would give the girls, who go to separate county schools, an opportunity to learn something new, create a craft and spend two hours together.
Yesterday’s craft was a purse created from t-shirts. With no glue or sewing involved the girls created the purse by simply cutting and tying the t-shirt according to directions given by Michael’s employee Heather Ritchie.
“We do these sorts of crafts several times a month.” Ritchie explained, “The Make It/Take It events are pretty popular because all you have to do is buy one thing, in this case, the t-shirt which was only five dollars. Then we provide the decorative items they need at no extra charge.”
The girls spent as much time joking around and laughing as cutting and tying and created quite the scene for other shoppers who stopped by to see the masterpieces in progress. Heather, meanwhile, who is used to dealing with much younger children at the crafting events, took it all in stride.
“Next month we have a lot more crafts scheduled and we should see a lot more people coming in. Having only two girls, even really giggly ones, is an easy day compared to some of our larger events.”
