CYLA Hosts Girls Lacrosse Tournament
The play day will feature 65 teams and about 100 lacrosse games at the Lake Shore Athletic Complex.

The Chesapeake Youth Lacrosse Association (CYLA) is hosting their annual Charge-Up girls lacrosse tournament Saturday at the Lake Shore Athletic Complex.
The tournament will feature 65 teams with girls from grades 4-8. The teams will come from all over Anne Arundel County, as well as Bowie, Kent Island and St. Mary’s County.
Bill Spies, CYLA girls program director and tournament director, said they are expecting 1,200 to 1,500 people in attendance.

“The tournament is a big fundraising effort for the Chesapeake Youth Lax Association,” Spies said. “We take the money and put it right back into the lacrosse community. It goes to youth in the Pasadena area and anyone who plays in our league. The team registration fees help us maintain and improve our fields.”
The CYLA is a youth lacrosse program located in Pasadena that offers boys and girls lacrosse teams for ages 4-13. Saturday’s tournament is only for girls, but Spies said it is a chance to watch local lacrosse.

“It is a good opportunity for kids that are interested in girls lacrosse,” Spies said. “It is a free day for them to come out and see about 100 different lacrosse games.”
Weather permitting each team will play at least three 25 minute games.
“It is really a day to get the teams started for the season,” Spies said. “Teams have been practicing so far, but games haven’t really started yet. So Saturday is a chance to get players and coaches ready for game play.”
The tournament will also feature concessions and lacrosse vendors. There is no fee to watch any of the games.
