DC Police Officer Robbed Teen Prostitute In Glen Burnie: Police

Anne Arundel Police arrested a Metropolitan Police Officer on a slew of charges, including assault and robbing a teenage prostitute.

(Updated at 1:49 p.m. Friday) GLEN BURNIE, MD — Anne Arundel County police arrested a DC police officer on a slew of charges including assault, prostitution and armed robbery, police said.

Officer Chukwuemeka Ekwonna, 27, of Glenn Dale, was arrested Thursday, April 6, police said.

On March 13, the Department of Homeland Security was alerted of a possible human trafficking case involving a 15-year-old female, police said. The victim was receiving services from the Department of Social Services when she told officials that she met Ekwonna via a social media app called "Tagged" and agreed to meet with him to engage in sexual activity in exchange for money, police said.

Investigation alleges that on January 9, the teenage girl agreed to meet Ekwonna in the Glen Burnie area, police said. The sexual encounter occurred inside Ekwonna's vehicle.

Once the sexual encounter was complete, Ekwonna produced a handgun and demanded his money back, police said. The girl gave him his money back and exited his vehicle.

Anne Arundel Police investigating the case obtained an arrest warrant for Ekwonna on April 6 and charged him with: armed robbery, robbery, firearm use in a felony crime of violence, first degree assault, second degree assault, two counts of third degree sex offenses, reckless endangerment, handgun in a vehicle, handgun on a person and prostitution, police said.

Search and seizure warrants were also issued and executed at Ekwonna's home and vehicle to search for and collect evidence relevant to the case, police said.

Ekwonna has been with the Metropolitan Police Department for 14 months. The Metropolitan Police Department revoked Ekwonna's police powers and he is currently on a "non-contact status," the department said.

The 15-year-old victim is receiving appropriate support services, police said. Evidence revealed the girl acted on her own and was not a victim of human trafficking, however she is not a target of any criminal investigation related to this case, police said.

Ekwonna is being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center pending a bail review hearing scheduled for Friday afternoon, police said.
