Fire Breaks Out In Riviera Beach Residential Garage

A fire was sparked in the workshop area of a detached residential garage in Riviera Beach. It was caused by hot metal shavings.

RIVIERA BEACH, MD – A fire broke out May 21 in a two-story detached garage located along Arundel Road in the area of Main Avenue at 4:37 p.m. More than 30 firefighters responded and no injuries were reported. The fire broke out on the second floor of the structure in a workshop area, disclosed the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The fire department reported that hot metal shavings and combustibles were disposed of in a plastic recycling container, which prompted the fire to occur. A neighbor spied smoke coming from the garage and called 911 to report the fire. According to the department’s report, firefighters first on the scene spied smoke expelling from the gables and after making their way to the source of the fire, they were able to “quickly extinguish” it. The owner was present at the time.
